Our Petition Has Launched.
Hey, and welcome to our blog. We’re going to use it to post updates about our campaign as well as other food hygiene tips and news. We’ll post updates on change.org too but we have the flexibility in our own blog to provide more information to you.
So hello, welcome to Safer Food’s campaign. What’s it all about? It’s simple really.
Whenever you visit a restaurant, takeaway or anywhere else that serves food they’ll almost always display their food hygiene rating sticker that was given to them by the Food Standards Agency to show the public how hygenic the establishment is. These ratings are based on assessments carried out by the FSA.
You probably recognise the sticker from when you've been to eat out. It’s a legal requirement in Wales and Northern Ireland to display these ratings in a prominent place within a business.
Why is it okay for food delivery companies like Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo to ignore these rules just because they operate online? We don’t think it is. Safer Food aims to get all of these platforms to display food hygiene ratings within their websites and apps rather than linking to the FSA's Food Hygiene Ratings tool. We don’t think that’s good enough, especially because people deserve to know how safe the food they’re ordering is likely to be. We’d love these companies to do this voluntarily rather than having to be forced to do so through legislation. It is possible for all major players to work together with us so that there is one set of standards across all apps. This will help you, the customer, to make more informed decisions, keep customers safer, encourage platform and restaurant competition as well as, most importantly, drive up standards.
If you'd like to know more about us and what else we're campaigning for please see our about page for more information.
Please click the sign button in the top right of this page if you’d like to see ratings within your delivery platform of choice to make a better and more informed decision. You can use the link on our page to “Check a Rating ” for now, until Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo implement this directly within their apps.
We’d love if you could share our petition, we’ve made it super simple here. All you need to do is click the link for the way you want to share the campaign. We’ve already typed out Tweets and Facebook posts for you as well as emails you can send to directly to the companies.
We’re a nonprofit and have no budget for things like campaign promotion. If you’d like to, and you absolutely don’t have to, you can donate to help us with things like website maintenance, server costs, social media management, publicity stunts and most importantly you will help us to afford freeing up time to work on the campaign and with platforms. You can donate at the bottom of every page on our website as well as by clicking the link in this paragraph.
If you can’t donate that’s completely fine. Please sign the petition below as well as share our campaign. They’re really helpful too. If you have any questions, would like to see how else you can get involved or would just like to speak to us contact us here, we'd love to chat. Information for press enquiries is also on our contact page. You've now finished this article so what are you waiting for? Go and sign the petition please.
Thank you,
Safer Food
